"Pair Of Lion Sconces. First Empire Period."
Pair of gilded and patinated bronze sconces. Model depicting in a medallion a lion's head facing in bas-relief, holding a gadrooned torus in its mouth. Three lights are attached to it, decorated with swan's necks, lotus leaves, scales under the bobeches. Decorated with large palmettes at the top and bottom of the medallion. Original gilding and patina.
A pair of a very similar model is in the collections of the Garde-Meuble du Mobilier National. This pair was made by Lucien-François Feuchère, carver and gilder, for the study of the Emperor's apartment at the Palais de Meudon in 1810 (reference attached in the photo gallery).
