Puiforcat - Solid Silver Vermeil Cutlery Set For 12 Persons, Paris 19th Century

Gold-plated solid silver cutlery set by PUIFORCAT. Model called "Filet" or "Filet Ancien", the spatula and handles decorated with a fine engraving of a laurel wreath encircling an "H".

The set includes
•    12 solid silver vermeil forks (L.16.7 cm) ;
•    12 solid silver spoons (L.17 cm);
•    12 fruit knives, handles and blades in solid silver with full engraving of PUIFORCAT (L.20.3 cm). 

Hallmarks on all pieces
•    "Minerve 1er titre" (French mark for solid silver 950/1000)..
•    Master goldsmith: "EP un canif de bureau" for Émile PUIFORCAT (1857-1883). 

Gross weight: approx. 2.102 kg.

Condition report: 
This cutlery set has the interesting distinction of still having its original vermeil. As such, it has the few scratches and wear that time and use have brought which are an advantage for most collectors and connoisseur. But don't be surprised and don't hesitate to ask more pictures if you have any doubts.


ÉMILE PUIFORCAT

Émile PUIFORCAT founded the famous Maison PUIFORCAT in 1820. The talent of Jean PUIFORCAT, a member of the fourth generation who worked during the Art Deco period, placed the company at the forefront of modern goldsmithing.
Émile PUIFORCAT inscribed his maker's hallmark in 1857.
He set up shop at 18 rue Chapon, in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris.
The silversmith died in 1883, but his hallmark was used by his successors until 1927, when it was cancelled.
