"Important Louis XIV Period Mirror. Mercury Ice, Golden Wood And Berain Frame. XVII "
Impressive mirror and its Bérain frame from the Louis XIV period (1661-1715) in gilded wood. Scrolled on its upper part, this object, of rare elegance, is in "good" condition despite its great age. Consisting of a baguette frame and mercury glass. This is a baguette known as “à la Bérain”, named after Louis XIV’s ornamentalist. Wands were made in workshops by sculptors. They were cut to the necessary length without taking into account the carving pattern. As a result, in mitered corners, the pattern never connects. The frame is in oak. The "Berain" type of decoration is made of combinations of arabesques, arcs of circles joined by a crosspiece, garlands, palmettes and symmetrical shells, fleur-de-lis, all on a background of grains of barley. A few small accidents on the frame but which in no way hinder the beauty or the rarity of our mirror. The parquet on the back is in good condition. Significant weight. Very elegant in a hallway or on a large chest of drawers. Ready to be fixed. Seventeenth century.
