"Ghent 1798-1809, Coat Of Arms Of Behault-limnander, Candlesticks Sterling Silver Pieter Colle"
Extremely rare pair of Empire period candlesticks engraved with the alliance coats of arms of Prosper de Behault (1810-1893) and Mathilde Limnander (1808-1895). The couple married in Ghent in 1834 and are the ancestors of most of the members of the current Behault family. The candlesticks in question are marked with the mark of master goldsmith Piéter Colle who is best known for his works made under the old regime. They also bear the guarantee hallmarks of the Ghent control office for the period from 1798 to 1809. Like many pieces of Ghent origin, they are magnificently engraved with typically Empire motifs. They unscrew into several parts.
