Description:
The aged priest Simeon is depicted standing on a pedestal on the right; he has received the baby Jesus from the Mother of God and bows his head down to him in reverence.
On the left you can see St. Joseph carrying the offering (two doves) in a small cage. The seer Anna is also present.
A seraph is depicted in the background on the right; he represents the heavenly hosts.
The background of the icon is decorated with a richly designed architectural backdrop.
Simeon had been revealed by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he had seen the Lord's Messiah.
He says it: “My eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of the nations.” (Luke 2:26-31)
The Eastern church festival of Christ's introduction into the temple corresponds to the feast of Candlemas in the Western church, which is celebrated on February 2nd.
In the upper margin the Church Slavonic title:
“Presentation of Christ in the Temple”

The icon presented here comes from a Russian iconographer and was created around 1850. The icon is made in egg tempera painting and is in good condition. Minimal color repairs in the image area.
