"Gloria Victis Clock - Antonin Mercié (1845/1916)"
Clock in cast bronze and published by Barbedienne around 1880 from the original plaster model created in 1872 and having obtained a gold medal at the Salon in 1874. This work is a powerful tribute to the defeated heroes of the Franco-Prussian War representing a winged Glory (Fame) about to rise, carrying a fallen soldier, at their feet an olive branch (symbol of peace) and an owl (wisdom). Good general condition, original patina of medal and golden elements, normal wear consistent with its age. major artist of his time, his sculptures are present in many public places, medalist of the Legion of Honor he was also president of the Society of French Artists.
