"Pair Of Large Berber Footed Jars, Aït Daoula Tribe, Great Kabylia, End Of The 19th Century"
Pair of large Berber footed jars, Greater Kabylia, Aït Daoula tribe, late 19th century.
Piriform terracotta with two large handles, on a pedestal.
Two presentation bases. Rare as a pair; Decor painted in black, brick red on earthy yellow slip decorated with geometric patterns in register on the shoulder.
On the body, panels of triangular motifs cut by a raised oval, in reserve, on a brick red background.
Jars with two handles, in glazed terracotta, with geometric decoration painted in red on yellow slip.
All these jars are carefully decorated with motifs whose symbolism has been studied:
the diamond shape for the man, the partridge for the woman, the egg for fertility...
The same decoration is found on both sides.
Very good collectible condition.
