The technique of "overlay" is a very particular technique, and needs a special and skillfull know-how. Two lays of cristal, of different colours, are assembled in a furnace, and once they are cold, the external lay is incised (grinded) so that the internal lay appears as an element of decoration. In this piece , in plus, the artist has painted some other parts of the vase with painted rehearsals. So the parts in rose are the internal cristal, whereas the parts in white are the external lay, painted in some places with flowers.
Overlay technique is also known as "cameo glass".
