Pair of Directoire period armchairs with clawed front legs. Hind feet ending in hooves. The recessed armrest consoles made it possible to sit with a saber, hence the name officer's armchairs. The slightly upturned backrests are connected to flat armrests by sculpted palmettes. Solid mahogany. Old trim in good condition. Period late 18th, early 19th century. An armchair stamped P.ACHARD. Seat carpenter in Grenoble having obtained his master's degree on August 3, 1784.
