Gabriel Augizeau, born in 1894 in Nieuf-le-Dolent in Vendée, is a figurative painter well known to the inhabitants of Pays des Olonnes.
Based in Les Sables d'Olonne, he worked for most of the year in his workshop, but in the summer, he moved into his wooden cabin on stilts which overlooked the embankment. The port, sailing boats and the channel ferryman were the painter's favorite subjects. He also painted the coastline, notably the wild coast of Château-d’Olonne with the famous Pain de Sucre and the Île Saint-Jean.
