Sèvres, sculptor Liance, 1818
Superb and rare biscuit group representing a love sitting on a rich armchair in the Consulat, Empire style. Zoomorphic front legs, sabre-shaped back legs, crosspieces with scrapers, swan-shaped armrests and hemicycle back. Beautiful drapery.
A popular model
According to the Manufacture's archives, this biscuit group was probably created in 1813. It was made by the repareur sculptor François Lemoine. The model was a great success, with no fewer than 56 sold in the shop between 1814 and 1829. Our model was made by Liance, who received payment for it via the accounting system shown in the last photo. The amou à la dentelle or amour au fauteuil was produced in several variants: all in blue, all in white, and the fauteuil in one or other shade. It should be noted that only five of these groups were sold in 1818, mainly to an Anglo-Saxon clientele.
Condition report: excellent condition, restoration at one hand
