"Guglielmo Pugi- Cupid Or Threatening Love, 19th Century Marble Sculpture After Falconet"
Sculpture in white Carrara marble representing seated Cupid. Finely carved work in perfect condition by the artist Guglielmo Pugi (1850-1915) and signed on the back. Subject after Etienne Maurice Falconet entitled "menacing love" presented at the salon of 1757 and commissioned by the Marquise de Pompadour to adorn the garden of the Hôtel d'Evreux, current Elysee Presidential Palace. This subject, which was very popular, is today kept at the Louvre Museum and was reproduced several times in the 18th and 19th centuries.
