"A Large Clock, "le Raccommodement", France Empire, Model By Claude Galle, 1800-1810"
“Le Raccommodement”, A large romantic Empire ormolu clock, ca. 1800-1810. The movement is signed “Soyez” Rue der Montmorency nr. 168, the model is by Claude Galle. A beautiful interplay of two fully sculptural, artfully executed figures in front of a richly decorated stage-like background. The couple's tender reconciliation is symbolically witnessed by two enthroned swans. Dimensions: 59 x 40 x 19 cm An almost identical example of this model by Galle is illustrated in Hans Ottomeyer and Peter Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, vol. 1, 1986, fig. 5.13.11.
