Clémentine BALLOT ( Alphonsine Marie Antoinette Clémentine Leroi ), 1879 / 1964 ( French )
A landscape painter originally from Creuse, Clémentine Ballot returned there with the support of her husband, where she spent much of her life. She met Eugène Alluaud, Anders Osterlind, Mania Mavro, Georges-Hanna-Sabbagh, Alfred Smith, Francis Picabia, Paul Madeline, Armand Point and Armand Guillaumin, with whom she became close friends.
She painted in Creuse, Brittany, the Lot and Dordogne, the Balearics and the South of France. She exhibited in Paris salons and organized her own shows throughout her career, from 1923 onwards. After Galerie Georges Petit, she exhibited at Bernheim Jeune in 1936.
The painter's work is part of the Impressionist movement of the early 20th century. Her painting is soft and colorful, and expresses a particular sensitivity to light, translating the atmosphere of places, giving them a soothing, delicate quality.
