" Beautiful Baroque Engraving "jesus Heals Near The Swimming Pool" After J. Restout Engraved J. Tardieu."
Beautiful and very large framed 18th century engraving representing Jesus healing near the Swimming Pool a paralitic man, who had been ill for thirty-eight years a Baroque Work called in the Rococo style attribution given to the Great Painter J. Restout known as Jean II born in Rouen on March 26, 1692 died in Paris in 1768, he belongs to the illustrious Norman Family of Painters, he himself was the son of Jean Restout and Marie Jouvenel sister and student of Jean Restout; Engraver Pierre Joseph Tardieu (1680 -1754) Official Geographer for the French Government. This sumptuous engraving that I would describe as pure Baroque style represents by its quality, the mannerism with which this great subject is treated, the style of Louis XV, majestic and imbued with grace. The scene is beautiful, animated by numerous characters and a masterful composition, Christ being the center of everything, in a remarkably contrasting print and in perfect condition, comes from a castle near Montpellier. The painting was in the heart of Saint Martin des Champs.... A truly beautiful work representative of this mid-18th Century period....
