"M.gauthier - Sterling Silver Chocolate Tea Coffee Service 5 Pieces "
By Martial Gauthier (Successor Souche-Lappara), tea and coffee service in solid silver with rich and meticulous decoration and carving with the attributes of the sea. The set is made up of five beautiful pieces, very richly worked and carved with marine deities. We can particularly notice the handles of the sugar bowl with Neptune's face, the spouts from which water cascades. Each of the pieces rests on four skated feet with applied masks of wolf heads on medallions in the shape of a shield. Moving and radiating gadroons isolated from amati friezes fill the lower part and the reverse while in the first third, an ornament of fish scales enhances a decoration of shells in rockery and foliage. A model headband is found on the upper part of the body. The console handles of the jug and the creamer are set between two rosette discs, its foliage forming aerial double sconces. As for the other two, (creamer and teapot) their finely and elegantly turned ebony wood handles are each screwed into a baluster sleeve. The flat-bottomed chocolate maker rests on a small frame with fillet moldings, the interior slightly ruddy. His turned wooden mousseir accompanies him; the scrolling thumb rests, chiseled with stylized foliage. The covered base-shaped spouts are richly decorated with aquatic creatures cascading water. The magnificent sugar bowl is flanked by two majestic heads of Neptune, the grips simulating a stylized wave crowning them. Its decor is identical to the other rooms, the interior such as the chocolate maker, softly vermilioned. This prestigious service is in excellent condition....a lot of work and beauty for these pieces, the points of application of the handles nicely thought out, a few tiny micro-bumps, points or micro-scratches from use, No wear no dents, very good condition. Very well maintained and preserved service.
