"Pair Of Armchairs Modeled By Georges Jacob"
Pair of Armchairs modeled on Georges JACOB Pair of armchairs modeled on those ordered by the National Convention in 1792 from the great cabinetmaker Georges Jacob and manufactured to serve as seats for members of the 21 Committees which governed France during the Revolution, including the famous Committee of Public Safety. Our model seats date from the 19th century and were made from wood called red sandalwood, originating from South-East India, the Chinese had reserved the exclusive use of it, under the name Zitan, for the sole Imperial House, during the three centuries of the Qing dynasty. This wood whose tight grain and hardness make it so dense that it sinks in water, it is rot-proof and insensitive to xylophages. The hardness of this wood and the traditional assembly of the seats testify to their solidity in use because to see them today after the scrubbing of the mahogany color which covered them, one might think that they are new! An expert report was produced concerning the wood (Pterocarpus Santalinus) of the seats. Description: Tapered turned front legs, with double ring at the lower end and intricate moldings at the upper end. Saber-shaped hind legs. Quadrangular belt with rectilinear crosspieces. Armrest supports in the shape of a chimerical animal, with a lion's head on the front dice and a fish tail going up towards the armrest. Concave socket with hollow bottom with palmette towards the upper end; in each spandrel released laterally between the armrest, the connector and the backrest upright, a floral motif. Openwork backrest with, halfway up, a frieze of alternating palmettes and rods. Upper crosspiece made up of a wide band. The cover of the seat pads was made with very good quality garnet red upholstery leather. DIMENSIONS: Height: 96 cm Width: 62.5 cm Depth: 56.5 cm Visit our site: www.meubles-art.com
