Although it measures 131 cm. it weighs only 2,180 kg and its balance is very good, since the balance point is 3 fingers (7.5 cm) from the cross guard BLADE : it has a diamond-shaped section, and has a sharp point profile. This type of blade corresponds to type XVIIIa of the Ewart Oakeshott's classification.
The central edge is very sharp, as are the cutting edges. We note the usual traces of oxidation on this type of sword, and slightly deeper marks on the 20 cm closest to the tip. However, there are no shortages.
Length of the blade = 99 cm, Width near the guard = 4.1 cm, thickness near the guard = 9.6 mm, balance point is 7.5 cm from the guard
CROSS GUARD: It is a strong cross guard with twisted straight quillons. This shape was fashionable between 1480 and 1500 (see photo of page 196 - which I attach - and also p.236 of "records of the medieval sword by Mr Oakeshott). The quillons end in a square section
POMMEL: It is a twisted bulb pommel, in suite with the guard, characteristic of this type of mount.
GRIP : it is made of wood covered with leather, under which we can see a central ring at the level of the median bulge, and a ring at each end of the handle. This is exactly the type of grip that appears in the photo in the book cited on p.196.
The leather of this grip is very hard, it is probably the original leather, or at least it is very old..
This sword is a beautiful piece, it comes from an old collection from Northern Europe, some pieces of which were sold in the 1990s. For a weapon of this type, its condition can be considered very good. These swords are not very common on the market, and their price at public sale is often high.
