Rare drawing by Jean-François Portaels (1818-1895) Allegory of Belgium, Study for the Concorde tank, Pen and brown ink, 16 x 11 cm. Framed dimensions 29 x 21 cm.

Allegory of Belgium, open arms holding a flag, and wearing a Phrygian cap. The banner reads: “People, form a holy alliance and join hands. » At the level of his belt it is also written “liberty”. We find this allegory in the Chariot de la Concorde within the procession of the Counts of Flanders which took place in 1849. Jean-François Portaels was responsible for the design of the chariot.
