"Oil On Canvas Representing “samson And Delilah”"
Oil on canvas depicting “Samson and Delilah”. French School Period of the 18th century Usual restorations, 19th century stucco frame gilded with gold H. 50 x L. 60 cm Samson possesses the power of invincibility, and he alone knows the secret of his prodigious strength: she lies in the fact that his hair has never been cut since he was born. He falls in love with Delilah, who wishes to obtain from him knowledge of this secret as proof of his love. The Philistines offer Delilah a fortune in exchange for this secret. She tries three times to extract this secret from him. When Delilah asks him for the fourth time to share his secret with her, Samson becomes impatient and gives in, revealing to her that his strength comes from his Nazir hair. It is then that Delilah will betray Samson and deliver him to the Philistines. She puts him to sleep on her knees and shaves his seven braids while he sleeps, thus depriving him of his strength and the help of God. She calls Philistines who put out his eyes and take him prisoner.
