Splendid sculpture by Davide Calandra (1856-1915) PIEMONTE REALE cast in bronze on marble base h 55 cm signed on base.
The work turns out to be one of the most important by the sculptor cited in numerous books and magazines.

Members of the Regiment at the end of the 17th century sometimes had partial or full upper armor and were armed with a straight-bladed sword or saber, and who have since been called "cavalieri" since, although recruited in part from the aforementioned Genti d'Arme like the similar "dragons," unlike the latter they were soldiers fit to move and fight exclusively on horseback.
By Italian tradition, therefore, those belonging to the "Piedmont (Royal)" and "Savoy" Regiments are called "cavalrymen" (and in the past also "cuirassiers").
