Very early on, Marcel Couchaux was noticed by the painters of the Rouen School: DELATTRE, HENOQUE, SUZANNE, LOUVRIER, DUMONT, among others…
In 1906, G.Dubosc, a famous Rouen critic of the time, said of him: “His a refined colorist's palette is especially fond of gray harmonies but remaining colorful, and his knitted and skilful workmanship juxtaposing and intertwining the loops, recalls with greater force the work of LE SIDANER »
At 32 years, Marcel Couchaux entered the Rouen Museum
In 1914 , he exhibited at the “Société Normande de Peinture Moderne” alongside HODE, DUMONT, DUFY, UTRILLO and VLAMINK.
He thus exhibited successfully in various painting companies until 1934.

The canvas presented here reveals a still life, a manner very rarely treated by this painter, showing a very worked paste, "knitted" as they say at the time. It very probably dates from his first period during which he painted with a brush before the “knife” took on more and more importance during his second period dated by François LESPINASSE, from 1910 to 1925.
