Bronze with excavation patina
H. 17 (cm.)
Small bronze version of the marble after Myron, a 2nd-century Roman copy now in the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme in Rome.
A souvenir of the Grand Tour
Iconography linked to archaeological discoveries was a popular theme for Italian artists in the 19th century. Mostly intended for the English and French, these small bronzes were intended to be taken to neighbouring countries as a souvenir of the trip to Italy. There is a whole production linked to this trip, such as small mosaics, marble busts and so on.
Condition report: very slight wear to the patina.
