"VENEZIA"
important piece in white porcelain (biscuit) from the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres by the sculptor G. Rivière representing a woman at the Venice Carnival. She is dressed in a large cape and wearing a Venetian tricorn on which her mask rests. The sculptor the sculptor expresses great delicacy and subtle sensuality.
The piece is signed on "Guiraud Rivière", with the stamp of the Manufacture de Sèvres as well as the incised letter "V". Handwritten note below the original from the Manufacture de Sèvres mentioning the date of production, the number and identification of the artist "Mture. Nle. de Sèvres 10.5.28, n° 211-61, Venezia by Guiraud Rivière" signed "Torda".
Maurice GUIRAUD-RIVIERE 1881-1947
Maurice Guiraud-Rivière, a student at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts, was an Art Deco sculptor, painter and draughtsman who produced numerous bronzes on the themes of women, sport, aviation and the automobile. He is internationally renowned for his automobile mascots, which are highly sought-after by collectors.
He began working with the Manufacture de Sèvres in 1921. In 1924, to coincide with the Olympic Games in Paris, he entered 7 works in the sculpture section of the Concours d'Art.
