"Revolutionary Indian With Tulips, Roundels And Tricolor Ribbons - France Circa 1790"
Circa 1790 South-West of France Amazing French Indian piece of furniture with a large design ratio dating from the French Revolution period. Wood block printing on Siamese linen - cotton in three colors of Cochineal red, manganese violet and indigo blue in brushed finish. The non-solid yellow must have faded over time. Design with large leafy tulips and a stream of tricolor ribbons with a string of roundels and rustic bouquets. Partly picoted canvases and fine stripes with ribbed geometric patterns, which were very fashionable at the end of the 18th century. The factory is not identified but probably in the South-West of France between Montpellier and Bordeaux. Tulip motifs in reference to the Ottoman Empire belong to Mediterranean culture. Later lining in unbleached woolen cheesecloth yellowed with time. Slight patina of colors but no holes or stains. Good general structural condition.
