"Owl-discovering Monkey, Letter Opener, Japan Shibuichi Meiji Era "
Japan Meiji era, Shibuishi Paper Cutter, Monkey With Owl, 19th Century
"Beautiful collector's item from the Meiji period, this Japanese paper cutter or letter opener is made of copper and shibuichi brass.
The copper alloy handle is patinated highlighting the metallic colors, the re-pierced blade is made of brass and has just been housed in its copper sheath.
the whole is a superb naturalistic scene where we see a monkey approaching a nest in which there are two chicks under the look of a large owl with outstretched wings, on the back we find the owl from behind and the monkey in strong relief.
the metallic patinas are superb and highlight the details of the animals, look in particular at the owl's feathers.
the scene takes place under the brass blade representing a cherry blossom tree and therefore pierced and openworked with cherry blossoms.

it is a magnificent collectible Japanese letter opener. dimension:
