"Ottoman Khanjar With Nephrite Guard"
A beautiful “Khanjar” dagger from the Ottoman Empire, today Türkiye. “Khanjar” originated in Persia and has been observed in Central and South Asia, generally spreading from Turkey to India. The "Khanjar" is a curved, double-edged dagger that was made in a wide variety of hilt materials and blade qualities. The hilt: Made of nephrite, a type of opaque, pale jade. The handle is I-shaped and decorated with a silver filigree roundel inlaid with turquoise. The Blade: The blade is curved, double-edged, and has a medial ridge that runs across the entire blade. The steel has a light forged pattern with hardened edges and is decorated with gold damascened foliage on the forte. It was placed in a matching sheath composed of two wooden plates, covered in black leather with two metal fittings decorated with typical Ottoman goldwork.
