Carpet from Istanbul, Turkey, early 20th century, Ottoman period.
This piece in silk on cotton weft, measures 128 cm wide by 190 cm long excluding fringes and 210 cm with fringes.
This rug is in very good condition, the mihrab is in the shape of a horseshoe specific to Istanbul prayer rugs but is above all an object of great decoration having certainly not, or little, been used for worship.
Two twin columns and a lamp decorate the niche.
The soft colors of this rug, pistachio, lime, apricot, chestnut, sea green, midnight blue, pale blue, shades that are pleasant to the eye.
The use of a restricted range of colors is one of the typical features of the Ottoman court style known as "saz".
They are the rarest of this production which began in the middle of the 16th century in the factories of Brousse and Istanbul, while knotting these carpets very densely for 600,000 knots per m2. Long bangs on one side are shorter on the other.
This rug has rings on the reverse, for hanging it, which in view of its superb condition, leads us to think that its long life was on a wall.
Dimensions: 128 cm (50") x 210 cm (83") with fringes and very fine, thickness 4 mm.
Our model is in very good condition for its age, has the characteristics described above and is a very beautiful collector's rug from the end of the Ottoman Empire.
This rug has been professionally and eco-friendly cleaned.
The buyer of this little marvel will receive an invoice serving as a certificate and a complete description of the item
