Pewter Sprinkler - Mulhouse, Early 18th Century

Large SAUPOUDREUSE in pewter in the shape of a baluster with a pedestal, decorated with three friezes of gadroons. The screw cap topped with an acorn is pierced with hearts, spades, diamonds and clovers arranged in rosettes.
Maker's mark: angel holding a palm / BW / FIN.
Height: 19.5 cm
MULHOUSE, early 18th century.

The Alsatian masters' hallmarks representing an angel holding a palm frond are all from Mulhouse. This not yet identified maker's mark has already been noted on an ewer, accompanied by that of Philippe II DOLLFUS active from 1718 to 1754 in Mulhouse. It is therefore very plausible that the master BW preceded Philip II Dollfus.
These large shakers are rare, like their earthenware, silverware and glassware counterparts
