Portrait of a man created by the sculptor Luigi Sereno born in Vercelli in 1860 and died in Vercelli in 1942 Author known for several monuments. The head measures a total of 43cm in height and 26cm in maximum width, the marble base measures 12 by 12 by 12 cm. The sculptor Luigi Sereno trained under the guidance of Ercole Villa in Vercelli and Francesco Barzaghi in Brera. His youthful activity appears to be characterized by a robust realism which is expressed through the study of physiognomy and the reworking of ancient sculpture. In his works the artist turns to the representation of the everyday life of his time, between social denunciation and emotional intimacy. At the same time he tries to gain credibility on the Vercelli market, alongside his colleague Francesco Porzio, competing for the assignment of public competitions and private commissions. He was the author of portraits and funerary monuments for the Billiemme cemetery and the Israeli cemetery of Vercelli.
