"Recognized, celebrated and collected with passion, the work of Narcisse Díaz de la Peña was able to seduce his most illustrious contemporaries! Delacroix, Renoir, Van Gogh, and remains essential for any collector and any collection of 19th century works. » (R. Miquel, Narcisse Díaz de la Peña, Paris, ACR Édition, 2006, p. 8) Narcisse Díaz de la Peña has explored numerous pictorial genres. It is mainly his landscapes, marked by the codes of the Barbizon school to which he belonged, which have attracted the attention of the general public. However, he also practiced history painting, portraiture, genre scenes and even still lifes; which is evidenced by certain bouquets of flowers that look as delicate as they are grandiose. With his bouquets, Díaz de la Peña enjoyed great success with a wealthy clientele demanding decorative paintings. These brilliant compositions designed and executed with great finesse were able to seduce her. In the present work, the vermilion touch of the poppy contains the ephemeral beauty that makes Díaz's painting so special. Complex in its composition and large in size, this work was probably produced during the painter's mature years.
