Arpoador is a residential area of the city of Rio de Janeiro, located on the seafront, where the districts of Ipanema and Copacabana meet. It takes its name from the Pedra do Arpoador, a rocky promontory that marks the start of Ipanema Beach. The name of this district comes from the populations of fishermen originally living there and who practiced harpoon fishing from the promontory. The term "arpoador" meaning "one who harpoons" in Portuguese.

Signed and dated 1913 at the bottom right and located more precisely on the back of the Harpoador Rio canvas, why the "H"? perhaps a confusion with the word "Harpoon"?
