"Georges Duhain: “the Surf”"
Georges DUHAIN (1860-1934): “The surf”, oil on hard cardboard approximately 53X75 cm, without frame. Circa 1920. This painting, very lively and luminous, is treated in an impressionist way by the beautiful Burgundian painter (as the subject does not indicate!) who taught in Mâcon and exhibited everywhere from Lyon to the Massif Central. His brother-in-law Fernand Bouchard was also a painter and they were part of a family of famous artists in the region. Treated with a swirling brush wonderfully rendering the "mossy" of the waves breaking on the rocks, the choice of the light palette, with deep or cerulean blues, the light highlights of pink, the purple of the shadows of the rocks make this work extremely attractive.
