"Jb Vassou (paris 1767) Louis XVI Console"
Elegant 18th century console from the Louis XVI period around 1770 stamped JB VASSOU (Jean-Baptiste Vassou 1739-1807) followed by the Jurande JME stamp presenting a half-moon shaped structure in molded mahogany opening in a belt with a large long drawer on the front as well as two real leaf drawers on the sides, the whole decorated with beaded frames and handles in full disk pull rings in mirrored rims and keyholes in coat of arms. The uprights and feet are tapered sculpted with grooves decorated with vegetable roughenings in gilded bronze. The middle part is decorated with a nicely indented crotch shelf, the whole is ringed at the cushioning and rests on fine gilded bronze clogs. The top is made of beautiful veined white marble surrounded by an openwork gallery in gilded bronze. Furniture offered in very satisfactory original condition, complete with locks and keys, representative of the taste and workmanship of the best productions by Parisian cabinetmakers of the Louis XVI era. Dimensions: 97 cm long x 86 cm high x 38 cm deep. VASSOU Jean-Baptiste (1739-1807) cabinetmaker in Paris received Master on January 28, 1767. He began his career on rue Saint-Nicolas at the brand "La Tête Noire" Vassou became known for a fairly abundant production of pretty furniture Transition or Louis XVI is made up of very pleasant works. In 1799, Jean-Baptiste Vassou transferred his workshop to rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine where his youngest son Jean-Louis succeeded him.
