"Pierre Labrouche (1876-1956) "surroundings Of Sare, Basque Country" Oil On Panel Signed, 36x44 "
Pierre LABROUCHE (Bayonne 1876 – Bayonne 1956) “Environs de Sare” Oil on panel signed lower right H: 36 cm x L: 44 cm Biography of the artist: Pierre Labrouche is part of the group of Nine, a friendly group of artists who contributed to developing a Basque regionalist painting on the north side at the beginning of the 20th century. Pierre Labrouche's painting is easily identifiable by its bright hues and precise pointillism. Along with Floutier and Masson, he is the artist who places himself most resolutely in an impressionist style with an unparalleled technique. Born in Bayonne, he trained at the Beaux-Arts in Paris before settling in Ciboure. He often left the Basque Country to go see his relatives in Morocco, to travel Andalusia, or to get lost in Venice, and from all his travels, he brought back numerous landscapes. The number of his Basque paintings is not immense, because if his life was dedicated to painting, he did not paint for live. In 1948, he was appointed curator of the Bonnat museum in Bayonne, a position he held until his death in 1956. A work by Pierre Labrouche, "The countryside in Sare", is exhibited at the Basque museum in Bayonne.
