“Rat de cave” cellar candle holder - early 1900s. Spiral candle holder with wooden base and candle holder with iron spring Equipped with a candle rise adjustment system depending on the length. With the spiral mechanism the candle can be lifted when it burns out. Model known as "Rat de cave" due to the hook, which resembles a rat's tail. In reality the hook was designed to allow the candle holder to be hung on the edge of wine barrels. Used in the past in cellars to control the fermentation of the must.
