"Claude-nicolas Delanoy - Engraved Sterling Silver Helmet Saucer Boat Louis XVI Period - Paris XVIII°"
Imposing and beautiful gravy boat helmet in solid silver by Claude -Nicolas Delanoy, goldsmith received master on December 10, 1766 in Paris. Its fluted pedestal is set on its large frame resting on four legs in the model of the throat. An engraving of olive leaves and fruits adorns the marli in isolated panels of amatite friezes and interrupted with rosettes of petals alternated with rosettes of acanthus leaves. The flared helmet-shaped belly is chiselled with the same generous decoration, spreading all around in garlands tied with a beautiful “Marie-Antoinette” ribbon. It rises at one end, thus forming the elegant and harmonious handle where a large acanthus leaf is born. The other end tightens in its continuity, offering the hemmed pouring spout on the reverse. A small shock on the display (photo), micro-marks of use. Excellent condition. Less common than the covered sugar bowl for this period, this superbly engraved Louis XVI period gravy boat is in very good condition. A gravy boat by the artist is exhibited at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Paris, Petit Palais, Rez-de-Jardin (room 12, showcase 01) as well as some tulip goblets and timpani. A sugar bowl went to Sotheby's in 2008, a solid silver ciborium is listed at the Ministry of Culture, located in Sillé-le-Guillaume, Saint-Etienne church etc.... Hallmark of Master Goldsmith Claude-Nicolas Delanoy, at reverse of the dormat as well as under the gravy boat: CND, a sun, two grains of medicine and crowned fleur-de-lys.
