"Joseph Latour (1807-1865) Bay Of Naples, Vesuvius In The Background "
THE BAY OF NAPLES - VESUVIUS IN THE BACKGROUND RETURNING FROM FISHING Original watercolor drawing by Joseph Pierre Tancrède LATOUR (1807-1865) ***About the artist*** Joseph, Pierre, Tancrède Latour was born on April 17 1806 in Noé (Haute-Garonne) in a modest environment. A draftsman from his childhood, he entered the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse, which he attended from 1825 to 1829. In 1845, he opened a workshop at his home at 39, place d'Orléans (currently place des Carmes) which will be frequented by the Toulouse bourgeoisie, their collector friends and art lovers, as well as by Toulouse or passing painters (Jules de Lahondés, Eugène de Malbos, Jacques-Raymond Brascassat and with him numerous painters from the Barbizon School ). A travel lover (Holland, Spain, etc.), he trained his students to draw on the motif, thus anticipating the approaches of the Barbizon painters and future impressionists. He was especially recognized as a brilliant draftsman rather than a painter and also left plates of lithographs devoted to picturesque sites and in particular the Pyrenees. He devoted his entire life to painting, drawing and collecting works of art until his accidental death in Toulouse on March 1, 1863. His works are preserved in several museums: museums of Lourdes, Montpellier, Toulouse… The collection acquired by the Gaillac Museum of Fine Arts following Turckheim-Pey's donation in 2009 constitutes the most important collection by this artist preserved in public collections. *** Signed lower right Circa 1830 Dimensions 12.2 x 21 cm Old drawing in a good state of conservation - Traces on the back of an old collage in the corners - See photo THE BAY OF NAPLES - VESUVIUS IN THE BACKGROUND RETURN FROM FISHING Original watercolor drawing by Joseph Pierre Tancrède LATOUR (1807-1865) ***About the artist*** Joseph, Pierre, Tancrède Latour was born on April 17, 1806 in Noé (Haute-Garonne) in a modest environment .
