Jacques-Augustin Gandais created his factory under the Restoration in 1819. Its production is mainly based on the doubled or silver-plated technique, imported from England. The Goldsmith services he performed made, through their quality, the reputation of silver-lined metal in France. Gandais covered the copper of the protruding parts of his models with strips of pure silver in order to counter their wear, just as he made the feet and other ornaments attached to his pieces in solid silver.
