Company founded in 1873 by John Bodman Carrington who established his manufacturing business at 130 Regent Street. The business was renamed Carrington & Co in 1880. By the early 1890s the Carringtons advertised themselves as jewellers, diamond dealers, gem dealers and silver manufacturers. The charter members were John Carrington, William Carrington Smith and George Bruford. They received the royal warrant from Queen Victoria, subsequently from Prince Albert, Edward VII and George V, as well as Nicholas I and II and Queen Alexandra of Russia. In 1893 they created the beautiful Dorset bow brooch for Queen Mary and in 1911 they set the famous Cullinan number III and IV diamonds in a brooch/pendant for her, a piece of jewelery now owned by the Queen.
