"Paul Pascal (1832-1903) Pair Of Large Orientalist Paintings"
Pair of large gouache paintings depicting Orientalist scenes signed & dated P. PASCAL -1901- (Paul Pascal 1832-1903) and titled respectively "Roman Road in El Biar near Algiers" and "Bords du Nile near Cairo in Egypt ". They each measure: 93 cm long X 53 cm high / at sight: 64 cm long X 24 cm high. It is interesting to point out that the artist's large formats remain quite rare on the market today. Paul Pascal was born in 1832 in Toulouse, descendant of a famous cabinetmaker family, Paul Pascal studied at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid under the direction of the painter Antonio Bravo. He spent his youth in North Africa then in the 1870s he was a decorative painter in Toulouse before beginning a brilliant career in Paris as a painter specializing in oriental views, very popular, his works found their way into bourgeois interiors. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1876 to 1880 and ended his life in the USA.
