A pair of candlesticks standing on a circular base with palmettes, the shaft resting on four claw feet. Alternating friezes of chased palmettes and guilloches. High quality cast iron. A quality piece in terms of the number of elements.
This format was also known as a "ras de cave" or "ragot". They were used for washing and, thanks to their compact size, for moving around at night. They were often placed on small pieces of furniture such as dressing tables or bedside tables. But they could also be used for decorative purposes, for example as decoration for a writing desk.
Condition report: wear to the gilding, later bobèche
