Florentine sculpture from the Renaissance leaves a definitive mark on his art. The “Saint Jean-Baptiste”, exhibited at the Salon in 1864, and his “Chanteur Florentin”, the following year, are two works which will make him famous. From 1880 he also worked as a painter and simultaneously exhibited sculptures and paintings. This work is inspired by a funerary model by Michelangelo: the statue of Giuliano de' Medici in the Medici Chapel in Florence. “Military courage” is one of the four bronze figures adorning the corners of the cenotaph of General de la Moricière. This monument built by the architect Louis Boitte for the Nantes cathedral was inaugurated in 1879. Numerous prints were made in five sizes by the Barbedienne house. Dubois' plaster model is in the collections of the Troyes Museum of Fine Arts. The bronze original is in Nantes Cathedral. Free delivery in France.
