"Vase - Jean Barol 1873-1966"
Vase with two handles in polychrome iridescent enameled earthenware decorated with storks. Signed “J. BAROL” at the base. From the Art-Nouveau period around 1900. All in good state of conservation. After starting with Clément Massier, Jean Barol joined forces in the BACS workshop (Barol, Alexandre, Carle, Sicard), Barol is the B of BACS. He left for Montières-les Amiens where he revived the production of earthenware. Returning to Cannes-la-Bocca in 1920, he continued his personal work of colored spots, metallic lusters on tense and nervous curves. “Best worker in France in 1927” Jean Barol is noted in the “History of Vallauris” by Jean Chabaud as having been designated “First potter in France” Dimensions: Height: 30.5 cm Base diameter: 7.7 cm Vase diameter at the widest: 13 cm Neck diameter: 6.2 cm
