Deceiving Jug In Varnished Earthm - Durtal, 1765

PICHET “TROMPEUR” in beige earth with brown speckled glaze. Baluster in shape, its neck is provided with openings prohibiting habitual use; the teat is connected at the throat to a hollow sausage and the equally hollow handle communicates with the base of the rumen allowing the consumption of the contents. It is engraved with the words: “Made by me François Laillet in Saint Pierre de Durtal on 15 October 1765”. This date is repeated on the exterior background.
Height: 14.6 cm.
DURTAL, 18th century.

Very good condition, however there is a chip at the end of the pacifier. I have not encountered any other object from this small center for 50 years and my searches in the specialized literature have been in vain.
A recent search in the archives of the Civil Registry of Durtal (Saint-Pierre Parish), however, attests to the birth of François Laillet in 1731 and his two children born in 1760 and 1761.
