"Large And Exceptional Christ “vivo” In Carved Ivory."
Ivory Height of feet and hands: 75 cm. Presented on a matte black metal base Very vigorously carved in the round and in the smallest details, this sculpture of the living Christ in ivory bears the date 1858 and located in Paris, we were unable to decipher the name of the sculptor. Work of a French, Parisian picture maker, this great Christ is represented with his head raised towards the sky, a half-open mouth revealing his teeth, hair with a median part falling on the shoulders in wavy locks, a network of veins, slightly visible on the arms and legs ; perizonium leaving the right leg uncovered with wavy lateral fall; legs parallel with the left slightly bent and feet juxtaposed. This important Christ is the illustration of classical art tinged with a touch of baroque. All the strength that this sculpture brings is due to an anatomy of great rigor, rendered by the study of bodybuilding. **I point out that such a dimension is extremely rare on the market! Very good state of conservation. Sold with a certificate and its CITES.
