“Art Nouveau” Pewter DISPLAY with strong relief decoration of child hunters.
Autograph signature of the artist and founder's mark of SIOT-DECAUVILLE in Paris.
Diameter: 22.3 cm.
PARIS, late 19th or early 20th century

Antonin Clau was born on June 14, 1861 in Toulouse. In 1883, he participated in the grand prize competition of the city of Toulouse which allowed the winner to obtain a scholarship in Paris. He won first prize against Antoine Bourdelle and therefore received a pension from his hometown allowing him to come and study in Paris where he became a student of Falguière. He exhibited from 1889 to 1898, and won an honorable mention at the Salon of 1893. He also made pewter vases and platters published by Siot-Decauville as is the case here.
