"Small Mahogany Bookcase, Louis XVI Style – 2nd Half 19th Century"
Louis XVI style mahogany bookcase, trimmed with brass and topped with Carrara marble. It opens on the front with two glass doors with solid mahogany frames, mitered in the corners. In the lower part, each door is dark with a solid mahogany panel. The panels and windows are highlighted by brass strips forming ogee moldings. Between the doors, we find a slightly rounded brass joint cover. Closing of the two doors is done by a brass lock on the right door, accompanied by a brass entry with its key in working order. After opening, we discover the interior, composed of four shelves on racks, with half-round brass-covered edges. The sides of this bookcase have an attached half-column having four stopped grooves. The whole rests on four “spinning top” feet decorated with a brass collar and ending in a shoe foot. The sides of this piece of furniture are made up of two panels surrounded by brass ogee rods and separated by a thin crosspiece. The top of this bookcase is made of slightly veined white Carrara marble, surrounded by an openwork brass gallery with overflows. This Louis XVI bookcase is unique due to the quality of its wood and its workmanship making it a rare piece of furniture, which seduces with its elegance and clean lines. ******** Period: 2nd half of the 19th century.
