Raoul SERRES (1881 – 1971) Basque pelota players Oil on panel signed lower right Beautiful wooden frame L: 65.0 cms x H: 54.0 cms Biography of Raoul Serres: Born in 1881 in Cazères-sur-Garonne (Haute-Garonne) and died in 1971 in Nogent sur Marne, Raoul Serres is a French painter, engraver and illustrator. A student of Bonnat, he was a member of the French Artists in 1906 and exhibited at the Salon of this group: honorable mention in 1898, third class medal in 1906, Prix de Rome in 1906. He illustrated numerous bibliophile books in small print runs, and was also the author of postage stamps and postcards. He painted, drew and illustrated the Basque Country a lot.
