GENERAL OFFICER'S PISTOL. Signed "Sauleau in Avallon". First Empire. Arquebusier Sauleau in Avallon from 1798 to 1820. Five-sided barrel, blunderbussed mouth, burnished and gold decoration on the thunder and the muzzle, mounting to the barrel by a drawer pin, hinged rear sight at the thunder, focus of the muzzle. The barrel is rifled, called “hair” or “marvellous”. Barrel length 19 cm, barrel length with breech tail 24 cm. Flat body plate signed "Sauleau à Avallon", swan neck hammer and scrolled basin. Walnut frame with long barrel, finely checkered stock. All fittings in polished steel with the exception of the silver cap. Oval shaped silver cap molded in relief of a jellyfish head. Whale baleen wand with horn head and steel plate. Silver thumb piece with the general's initials "HP" engraved by the family during the Second Empire. The buyer will have the name of the general and a certificate. Weapon length: 34 cm. Set in very good and working condition. See Photos for condition.
